COVID-19 UPDATE 4/27/2020
Its here! We are back! We are so excited to get the approval from Governor Beshear and Dr. Stack to resume elective dental care. The Kentucky Board of Dentistry has worked with the Kentucky Dental Association to create guidelines for dental practices to follow. The effective date for dentistry to open is today, April 27. While we want to ensure we get all of our patients back to routine care as soon as possible, it is important to take our time to prepare to do this right. None of us have ever restarted a dental practice after a nearly two month shut down. Dr. Millay and his team will be spending the week of April 27 to train as a team on all new protocols and procedures to make the reopening as seamless as possible. Our opening date is May 4. We plan on a full schedule of services, though the schedule will likely be lighter than it was previously to make the accommodations necessary in our “new normal”.
There are many changes to what you were previously used to in order to accommodate to dentistry in the era of COVID-19. We appreciate your patience with the new protocols that we will be using. During all appointment confirmations, we will be asking you questions regarding a recent two week history of any fever, cough, flu-like symptoms, COVID-19 positive test, known exposure to a COVID-19 positive person, and recent travel. This is to protect the staff and other patients against the spread of the disease. Once you arrive, we ask you to please not enter the office. The reception area will be closed for now. We ask instead that you call us upon arrival. We will have a staff member greet you in your car to check you in. Your temperature will be taken at this point to screen for fever. A temperature of 100 degrees or higher will indicate a situation where we would ask you to reschedule. After the parking lot check in, the team member will escort you inside the office and seat you in the treatment room immediately. We ask for your compliance with not entering the office on your own. In order to practice social distancing in the office we need to ensure patients enter and exit the practice escorted in order for no patients to have to pass each other in the hallways or entryway. We also ask that you do not walk out of the treatment room on your own for the same reasons. Since treatment rooms are individual rooms, social distancing is in effect once you are seated. At the completion of your visit, a staff member will escort you to check out. Only the patient may be present in the office. Anyone else accompanying the patient must wait in the car. We ask that parents wait in the car for their children at their appointments. A team member will escort them into the office and back out at the completion of their appointment. If you have a young child and are uncomfortable waiting in the car, you may enter the office with your child and stay for their appointment. Only one parent may enter the office, your temperature will be taken prior to entering, you must wear a mask or face covering the entire time, and must maintain the 6 foot social distancing between any other patient or staff. We understand that this is an inconvenience to be escorted into and out of the office, but it is the only way to keep a safe environment through social distancing. We will also have a lighter schedule than we did previously. Dr. Millay and the staff understand that this may make it more difficult when scheduling, but we are committed to increasing our hours to ensure that we accommodate everyone. For those over the age of 65 and those with significant underlying health issues, we may decide to postpone your care for now. We will contact you if this is the case. If you have any concerns yourself, please don’t hesitate to reach out to us.
Dr. Millay and his staff will be screened each day for any signs of infection to ensure a safe clinical environment. Dr. Millay and the staff will have their temperature taken and asked if they have any signs of a cough or flu-like symptoms. If any staff member or Dr. Millay has a temperature above 100 degrees or report a cough or any flu-like symptoms, they will not be allowed to work and will be on a 14 day quarantine before being allowed to return. We have also added a tremendous improvement to our already diligent infection control and sanitization. Extra attention will be pain to all areas of the office outside of the treatment rooms for additional disinfection and sanitization. We will manage our aerosols to the best of our ability through the use of high volume suction in all procedures, use of rubber dam, and the implementation of an air filtration/purification system with UV light exposure against bacteria and viruses. The system we use is Surgically Clean Air for anyone who would like to learn more about it.
Dr. Millay and his team would like to express our gratitude for the health care workers and first responders who are on the front lines of fighting this pandemic. They are the true heroes in this epic fight. They are all in our prayers.
Again, we are so excited to resume seeing all of our wonderful patients. We have missed you! Thank you for the trust that you place in us.
